Thousands of parents and their children protested outside hospitals in the southern Indian city of Bangalore following false rumors that children had fallen sick after being given polio drops, police said on Monday.
Police said nobody had fallen ill from the vaccine and filed a complaint against a local TV station, saying it helped spread panic following the rumors of children contracting fever and vomiting.
This is an interesting event and we need to look very carefully at it, because one day soon the truth about vaccine will come to the fore.
For example, how will the people of India react, along with the rest of the world, when the common man on the street finds out that it has been known for over a decade that the MMR vaccine has been contaminated with retro-viral particles, reverse tran ase and xeno retrovirus entities, such as the Avian Leukosis Virus. These retro viruses are in the same family as the HIV virus and have the very real potential of being able incorporate their DNA into the human genome of the vaccine recipient and cause cancer {to name one disease}. These contaminants are also found in the flu vaccine – any vaccine, in fact, that is grown using eggs.
Now, this is extremely bad… I don’t know how else to put this, but does the public know about it_? Are government regulators or watch dog agencies doing anything about it_? Are vaccine makers cleaning up their act or taking any responsibility for this or potential long-term consequences_?
The answer is no, no, no and no.
Why should they_? Have we ever held vaccine manufacturers accountable for anything_? Again the answer is no. What if they had been held accountable for infecting millions upon millions of people with the SV40 virus in the Polio vaccine of the 1950’s and 60s_? This is a simian virus that is now found in half Non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas and some brain cancer.
This is what happens when we, as a society, tolerate being experimented on in a very unconscious manner.

I just had to write this. Having stayed in this city from the time I was born and to see something like this happening, was too much to take. These days from 26-11 have left behind scars that will always remain for lot of people. Though not affected as what people who were taken hostages, the effect is still very eerie. On 26th night at around 10:30pm I heard a blast and another one after 10 minutes. Having heard the 1993 blasts in my medical school, I knew that these were not firecrackers but were something different. I immediately turned on the TV and came to know that terrorists were firing indiscriminately at people in TAJ, Oberoi hotels and at VT station. This drama continued to unfold and it was too ghastly. Just staying across the sea, I could hear each and every grenade that was being thrown in Oberoi much before it came on the TV. I felt I was in a war zone and blasts were occuring all around. The next morning too the blasts continued: I distinctly remember hearing one at 5:15 and the other at 5:45 before I shut the windows. What was happening_? I even saw the oberoi onfire first hand through my window. And why was it not just stopping_? The anger and frustration was slowly building up. To think that we were sitting ducks to these handful of terrorists who had taken the city to ransom. Infact, I was shocked at children being exposed this kind of life so early in age. My niece who is 6 years old on being told that she had no school in view of the blasts asked me a question as to why were they killing people_? Before I could answer her she asked me again whether the terrorist were jealous_? I could only reply yes and then she asked me why were they jealous_? This hit me straight and I was set thinking, yes the terrorists are doing this because they are jealous - jealous of our freedom, jealous of our unity, jealous of our progress and their own inability and jealous that inspite of all odds we were still happy. Humans all across the globe have this way of life to carry on further and go ahead, this is the way life is designed. If we were to get stuck in hate, greed, jealousy we would be going backwards instead of forward.
The drama that was unfolding was too unrealistic and this anger kept on building - why is this happening again and again. It is very easy to blame the enemy, blame a country, but what were we doing to protect ourselves. Having left our doors unlocked, we were inviting unwanted elements and then crying foul. Our police force though brave were no way capable of fighting AK47s and hand grenades. Imagine a police force in hundreds could not take on 10 terrorists. The commandos and firefighters did a great job, but we learnt a lesson a hard way. Definitely a salute to them. Our leaders had failed us miserably. In the olden days, the king used to lead his soldiers from the front during the battle, but now our politicians were incapable also of taking emergency decisions. And some of the statements made by our political leaders were just so inhumane and risque that one felt they had no right to be there. And there were politicians who would politicise the issue - I got an SMS stating that we should now forget about the men in boat and only worry about whom to vote. What a shame that people could not give up politics even for a little while. The citizens have had enough and now is the time that we make our politicians accountable for what they have been elected for, file a Public litigation if they are found shirking from their duty, have a central or judicial body that looks into their action and if found guilty should be punished and ensure that we as a country are in safe hands and have proper security for it. THE SYSTEM HAS TO CHANGE. OUR COUNTRY BURNS WHILE OUR POLITICIANS FIDDLE. I request viewers to share their views and be aware of what is in store if we just let this go.

This vaccine has newly entered the market and IAP immunisation committee has recommended this vaccine to be used. The product monograph itself has follow up studies for 5 years only. The maximum age when it can be given is 26 years. That means that the vaccine provides immunity and protects till the age of 31 years. To my knowledge the disease occurs only after the fourth decade. Is the company or the IAP in a hurry to recommend this vaccine for use despite the knowledge that the longterm vaccine efficacy is not known.

Dear fellows, India is facing the problem of Population explosion. Government efforts are not giving expected results. Can pediatricians make any difference _? yes, More or less almost every neonate come to see a pediatrician with parents. And this is the time when a little encouragement to adopt family welfare programme can have a big effect in parent``s mind. Ofcourse we are benefiting newborn also by spacing or limiting the family. There are many Pharmceuticals marketing anti TB drug combination packs under various brand names.. The srenghth of individual drugs varies from brand to brand and leads to lot of confusion while prescribing ATT for children. The following table highlights this fact:
3 Drugs combinations
Brand Rifamp. INH PZA Ethamb. {In mgs.}
Montorip Kid 100 50 300 - - -
Rifacept kid 100 75 250
Rifater 120 80 250
Coxter 3 FD 150 100 500
Montorip forte 225 150 750
Rifcept-3 forte 225 150 500
Monitor 3 225 150 750
Rifinex plus 150 100 500
Rimcure 3 FDC 150 300 400
Rinizide forte DT 150 100 500
4 Drugs combinations
Monitor 4 225 150 750 275
Xeed 4 150 75 400 275
Caviter FD 225 150 750 400
2 Drugs combinations
Rimactazid disped 100 50 - - - Ipacin kid 100 100
Rcinex kid 100 50
Binex kid 150 100
Tibrium INH 100 100
The above table reflects a scenario akin to that of a jumbled mass of confusion. Conventionally the forte strength of a drug is double the normal one. It is extremely difficult to memorize the various strengths of ATBDs in different brands. It can lead to pre ion errors ,underdosage or overdosge. Underdosage can help emergence of MDR TB and overdosage to drug toxicity in a child. The drug controller, IAP and pharma companies must put their heads together and try to remove this ambiguity. The various brands must have identical strength of different ATBDs.

Hi, just a thought to ponder........ if all we paediatricians join up and give free medical advice to school children and the necessary medication {whatever possible}, i mean in the govt schools , then we can bring down the under 5 yr mortality. Its no point in sitting and expecting the Govt to do everything.

The sad demise of Star Voice of India, Ishmeet Singh has created an irreparable void for his family and a pall of gloom for his fans. The tragedy could have been averted if he himself or his friends knew how to swim. This sad event should be an eye opener for the parents of young children. The kids must learn swimming at a young age. They can be life saviors for themselves and many others during similar situations. Another thing which youngsters must learn at home and schools is "First Aid". Knowing CPR {Cardio-Pulmonary resuscitation} is a must for them and the technique can be handy to save lives during life threatening conditions leading to choking and suffocation before the proper medical aid arrives. The Pediatricians should take up this matter with the authorities of schools in their vicinity. They must spare some time to teach First-Aid to school children. The youth need council ling and must avoid unnecessary risks to their lives. Dr. Jasbir S. Chugh, Ludhiana

Ethical and unethical practices are either at personal level, which canot be big but institutional or industry level malpractices are phenomenal. . We feel our pharma industry is an institution of unethical practices.
Science is mixed with marketing very cleverly. Young smart graduate boys brief you regarding so called latest drugs, try to imprint on your brain odd spellings of many drugs and lastly give you gifts, samples under the disguise of trial on patients. These marketing people feel they help in improving doctor’s knowledge. Thank god they do not teach medical students in our medical colleges. Sir I have mentioned only a fraction of whole system. We must adapt a new system of direct marketing to a retailer under generic name. We believe our academic journals, CMEs, workshops and conferences are too good to teach us. It is humanly impossible to remember the odd spellings and names of thousand of drugs. Drug companies can put their names in bracket under the generic names. If a prescribing doctor prefers certain companies for certain products, he can do so.
One way to ensure a good knowledge for the doctor is yearly refresher’s course for all the practioners of modern medicine. Specialist and super specialist should also undergo the refresher’s course suitable for them. This will eliminate the need for medical representatives particularly in rural areas. Certain ethically accepted measures must be implemented if physicians want to retain the public trust that they still enjoy...

It is with great interest that I read the article in Times of India about private medical colleges charging a huge amount of money for reserving payment seats for students who wish to do medicine. I then had a talk with my resident doctors and realised that most of them have come through these so called "payment seats". With almost half seats being reserved for backward classes, the remaining half open merit seats are divided into 2 parts: payment and non payment seats. Payment seats charge about 8-9 lakhs fees for total MBBS course officially but over 12-15 lakhs may be taken to get the seat. The scenario for post graduation is even worse and apparently radiology and orthopedics are the 2 most common sort after branches with price as high as 50 lakh rupees. I asked my resident how much he had paid for MBBS and he told me since he had some influence, he could manage with 5 lakhs additional. Also CET marks do not make a difference, it is money that matters. To think all this is happening in the name of education and charity. Now-a-days starting a medical college seems to be the most lucrative business where you can make money in crores. This doctors then when they practice are so tempted to do malpractice to "recover" the money they spend in education and so called education. I think now when one goes to a doctor, it will be necessary for a patient to not only know the degree and qualification but also the medical school from which the doctor passed out. Where is the conscience of the medical college trustees- who play in the name of health_?_?
